Top Picks & Advice – Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2017

This year was my first time participating in the #NSale at Nordstrom, let alone being apart of the early access crew. I have to say, the blogging world totally got me sucked into the hype, haha! So the question is, is it worth it?

Short answer is.. YES! I feel like I scored quality pieces for great prices. I’l get to my top picks in a moment, but first I wanted to share a little advice for first timers that may make it easier on you if you decide to sign up for early access next time.

1. What is the Nordstrom Anniversary sale??
Once a year, Nordstrom has their anniversary sale, where you’ll find brand-new items on sale. Usually you don’t get to shop the upcoming season’s newest looks already marked down, but this is the one time you can! If you get a Nordstrom credit card, you get exclusive access before the public to these awesome deals. I’m usually not big on credit cards, but I wanted to get in on the early access. The Nordstrom card also has a rewards system where you earn 2 points per dollar and you can also schedule special triple points days, where you earn 6 points per dollar. Every 2,000 points get you a $20 note to use at Nordstrom. I went ahead and scheduled my personal triple points day for day 1 of the early access.

2. Apply for your Nordstrom card at least a month before early access starts.
Ok.. so like I mentioned above, in order to get early access to this sale, you have to be a Nordstrom cardholder. I applied for my Nordstrom card about a week before early access, so when the sale started, I didn’t physically have my card yet. When early access started at midnight (3am my time), I was able to verify some of my info to view the sale prices online, but couldn’t actually check out using my new card. Upon approval for your card, they give you a temporary barcode to use only in the store. So there I was with a cart full of stuff, but no way to use my card and earn my triple points. I ended up getting some things in store and ordered the rest from in the store, so it all worked out. But long story short, apply for your card ahead of time and you’ll have no limitations and a much easier experience.

3. Don’t worry about staying up all night to wait for the sale to hit.
The early access sale officially starts at midnight PST, so 3am where I live. There was nothing that really sold out until the afternoon that day. So get your sleep, drink your coffee, then log on in the morning or head into the store to shop. I will add, though, that if there is something you think you might want on the first day, go ahead and buy it because things do sell out. And if/when it comes back, it will be at full price. You can always return anything at any Nordstrom if you decide against it once it comes in.

4. Set a goal and budget.
Plan ahead. Decide what it is you really want to get. Go through your closet and see what’s missing, outdated or just needs to be replaced. Focus on staple items for fall: booties, jeans, bags & cardigans. These items do sell out first. There are some great basic tees and other items, but it’s easy to get carried away and overspend on things you just don’t need or things that will be out of fashion next fall. So make a plan and (try) to stick to it. Easier said than done, I know.

Ok, now let’s look at some of my top picks!

1. Booties

If there is one thing you need this fall, it’s a pair of booties. They go with so many different outfits; jeans, leggings, shorts, etc. I love how neutral this pair is. Vince Camuto is a great go-to brand for booties!

2. Jeans

This is a great time to stock up on designer jeans. Articles of Society, STS blue, AG & rag & bone are some of my favorites. I like having a good pair of blue denim, white and black jeans to create a number of falls looks.

3. Cardigans

Cardigans are a fall must-have. Open front cardigans are great for layering. Nordstrom has quite the selection, but I tend to only like the fit of the ones that come in petite sizes. They all run pretty big so definitely don’t be afraid to size down if you’re ordering online.

4. Sweaters

Sweaters are obviously another must-have for fall. This bell sleeve sweater is so cute and only $31 on sale! I ended up going into my local Nordstrom and trying it on. It’s really cute and comes in two colors. Side note: you have no idea how hard it is to be shopping for fall clothes while 6.5 months pregnant!

5. Jackets

Leather jackets are a staple you should have in your closet. They never go out of style and this BLANKNYC moto leather jacket is on sale for only $64!

6. Tops

I got this top when I went into the store. I’m a sucker for ruffles and I love that it’s one-shoulder. Such a simple but fun top!

7. Bags

I love a good neutral bag for fall. I actually invested in a diaper bag that looks like purse but if I didn’t have a bunch of tots in the house, this would be my fall bag this year! I love that it’s simple, yet has a few fun details that make it unique.

8. Scarves

This scarf is so cute and super soft! And it’s only $18!

There are so many great pieces in this sale! If you don’t have a Nordstrom card, don’t worry. Public access to these amazing prices starts July 21st! The sale ends for everyone on August 6th. Prices go up August 7th.

Happy Shopping!
